Whopper – 164 Pound World Record Fish Just Caught in Missouri

I've caught some big fish in Missouri in my lifetime, but never anything like this. A world record 164 pound fish was just landed at the Lake of the Ozarks and it's not likely to be topped anytime soon.

The Missouri Department of Conservation just shared the news of what Chad Williams of Olathe, Kansas just did. He reeled in a 164-pound, 13-ounce paddlefish at Lake of the Ozarks. Check this bad boy (and fish) out.

This catch completely smashed the previous Missouri state record for a paddlefish which previously was 140 pounds. But, Chad's fish also topped the world record of 164 pounds by 13 ounces. Nice. 

Chad was reportedly invited to go snagging with friends and didn't even know what a paddlefish was. He does now.

“I was thinking I was extremely weak because it was taking so long to reel in. My body was aching,”

Once Chad Williams saw the fish on the other end of the line, he knew he wasn't weak. It was the paddlefish that was strong. He also acknowledged that he'll likely never need to go snagging again since he's now the world record holder.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says that Chad and the friends he was fishing with immediately knew they had a record fish and went to get the weight confirmed which it was.

Now, Chad Williams of Olathe, Kansas paddlefish stands among all the other record fish caught in Missouri. A record not likely to be topped soon if ever.
