The Richest People In Illinois And Wisconsin, According To Forbes
A few weeks back, we told you about the richest people in Illinois, according to a Forbes report.
Today, let's take a look at the richest person in Illinois, the richest person in Wisconsin, and a few more of our neighboring states. I do have to warn you that these are the kinds of numbers that might make you rethink your career choices.
According to Forbes' new The Richest Person In Every State report, published on October 14th, Illinois' richest resident is Lukas Walton, with an estimated net worth of $45.5 billion. He's the grandson of Walmart founder Sam Walton, but unlike some members of the billionaire club, he isn't running the family business. Instead, he founded Builders Vision, an investment and philanthropy organization focused on food and agriculture, energy, and ocean-related ventures.
Apparently, having billions of dollars doesn't necessarily mean you spend your days checking the Walmart sales circular.
Now Let's Take A Look At Some Of Illinois' Very Wealthy Neighbors
Wisconsin's richest resident is Diane Hendricks, worth an estimated $23.6 billion. Hendricks co-founded Beloit-based ABC Supply with her late husband, Ken, in 1982. The company has grown into one of North America's biggest distributors of roofing, siding and other building materials. Following her husband's death in 2007, she continued leading the business and expanding its reach.
That's a pretty impressive Wisconsin success story, and one that started right here in our backyard.
As For Some Of Our Other Neighbors...
In Iowa, the richest resident is Harry Stine, whose fortune comes from the agricultural seed business.
In Indiana, it's Carl Cook, whose wealth comes from the medical-device company Cook Group.
And in Nebraska, Warren Buffett remains the state's wealthiest resident, thanks to his legendary investing career at Berkshire Hathaway.
Meanwhile, the national heavyweight remains Elon Musk, whom Forbes valued at approximately $1 trillion for its state-by-state ranking. Yes, trillion. A number that makes even a billion dollars sound like pocket change.
Keep in mind these fortunes are estimates based largely on company ownership and investments, not piles of cash sitting in bank accounts. Their values can change with the markets.
Still, it's fascinating to see who tops the list in our part of the country. And if anyone needs a few extra bucks to get through the week, now we know who to go make friends with.
