An Illinois motorcyclist was arrested by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department on DUI charges earlier this week, released, and then arrested again a few hours later.

Dueling Dummies

This should be shameful to admit, but the "Dueling Dummies" segment we do every weekday morning at 8:45 on Q98.5 is my absolute favorite.

Am I a jerk for laughing at another person's mistakes? Probably, but when you're breaking the law in a very stupid way, you deserve the ridicule.

We've highlighted dumb criminal stories from all over the world, but we don't often get the chance to talk about a story straight out of Illinois. Today, we do.

Dumb Illinois Criminal

There’s something extra special about a “Dueling Dummies” story that happened practically in our own backyard, and this latest one out of Sycamore definitely earned a spot on the show.

On Monday, May 17, 2026, deputies from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department received a call to check on a drunk Illinois man who had just driven his motorcycle to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore.

At first, this story might sound like the man chose an unfortunate location to admit he was too drunk to drive, but here is where the bizarre part comes in.

Eyewitness News reports that 32-year-old Thomas Rapp had been released a few hours earlier on another DUI charge when he returned to the jail still drunk... and still driving.

Now look, I’m not here to completely roast the guy. Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt in these incidents and everybody makes mistakes, but when your day includes TWO sobriety tests, it might be time to call literally anybody else for a ride. Your mom. Your cousin. The neighbor kid with a Razor scooter. Anybody.

This is exactly the kind of story that makes our “Dueling Dummies” segment so great. You can almost picture the officers seeing him again later and thinking, “Wait…weren’t we JUST dealing with you?”

At the end of the day, the story is funny in a “you can’t make this stuff up” kind of way, but it’s also another reminder that drunk driving is NEVER worth the risk.

Call a rideshare. Call a friend. Don't get behind the wheel (or handlebars), and most definitely do not drive yourself to the police station for help... unless you love spending time behind bars and getting your mugshot taken.
