Strong Winds, Cold Rain to Soak Rockford and Chicagoland
Looks like we fell for a Spring of Deception as a third round of Fall returns to northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin with temperatures feeling like it's almost time for Thanksgiving.
More than halfway through May, and if the current extended forecast holds up, we won't be back into the 80s until almost June.
Stormy Tuesday with Powerful Winds
The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain and strong winds for the Stateline area on Tuesday (5/20), and widespread thunderstorms are now being predicted in the afternoon.
Rainfall could be heavy at times, with up to an inch possible on Tuesday and wind gusts around 45 mph, which will make it feel even colder.
With some potentially heavy thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon, there are some concerns about the evening commute, which could have some slick conditions on the roads.
Rain and Cold Continue into Wednesday
Scattered thunderstorms will move out on Tuesday night and leave light rain through the overnight, with Wednesday (5/21) continuing to be damp with a 50 percent chance of rain, according to the Weather Channel.
Winds will ease up a bit on Wednesday, but we still have 20 mph winds that will keep it chilly, with another round of showers on Wednesday night when the lows drop to the mid-40s.
Gradual Clearing by the Weekend
Current forecast has rain tapering off on Thursday, still with a 20 percent chance of showers but expecting partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 50s.
By the start of Memorial Day weekend on Friday (5/23), the weather pattern for the Rockford region turns drier, with mostly sunny skies expected and highs in the lower 60s.
The extended forecast doesn't show temperatures back into the 80s until after Memorial Day weekend.
