Now that the bulk of COVID-19 restrictions is behind us, Rockford City Market is making some changes for the upcoming 2023 season.

2023 Opening Day for Rockford City Market

I think we've officially hit that time of the year when we're all over winter and start dreaming of the Spring and Summer fun ahead. For me that means summer weekends at the lake, afternoons spent floating in my pool and doing some local shopping, eating, and drinking at Rockford City Market on Friday nights.

Upcoming Changes at Rockford City Market

After hitting record attendance numbers in 2019, the pandemic happened and forced changes to be made to how the Rockford City Market operated in 2020. COVID restrictions required vendors to be more spread out and it also needed more space so visitors could social distance while shopping at the Market. This need for more space led to shutting down a part of State Street every week during market hours, which many shoppers enjoyed, but several downtown businesses definitely did not.

After considering the objections of many downtown business owners and the fact that COVID restrictions are nearly non-existent now, the Rockford City Market is preparing to shrink back down close to their original borders for the 2023 season.

The Rockford Register Star reports;

Organizers are proposing a 2023 City Market to City Council that for the first time since 2020 will not close parts of State Street to traffic.

A smaller footprint isn't the only change we will see at Rockford City Market in 2023, local, not-handmade vendors, could be making their first appearances at the Market too.

If you're interested in becoming a vendor for the 2023 Rockford City Market season, applications are due by March 3, 2023, so you better click here and get yours submitted ASAP!
