Rockford Shelter Extends Adoption Event as More Than 190 Pets Wait for Homes
As someone who has loved and lost rescued pets over the years, stories like this always hit me right in the heart. If you've been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, please consider adopting one from Winnebago County Animal Services this week.

Benefits of Pet Adoption
Since the age of 7, I have always had a dog to love in my life. A few of those dogs were from breeders, and several of them were rescued from animal shelters in the Rockford area, but one thing always remained constant: they were all completely adored by me.

I've always believed that adopting a pet is one of the most rewarding things you can do.
Yes, you're giving a loving and deserving animal a second chance at love and life, but if you've ever adopted before, you know the truth: these animals often end up rescuing you too.

Adopting a pet from an animal shelter not only gives you a new best friend to love, but it also opens up space for other animals in need, and right now that space is urgently low at Winnebago County Animal Services in Rockford.
Winnebago County Animal Services Extends Discounted Adoption Event
Every year, Winnebago County Animal Services participates in the BISSELL Pet Foundation's "Empty the Shelters" discounted adoption event to help clear their cages and find loving pets new homes, but this year the need is greater.
WCAS Adoption & Volunteer Program Coordinator, Amber Pinnon recently told mystateline.com:
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has already opened their hearts and homes during this Empty the Shelters event – dozens of deserving pets have already found loving families. Unfortunately, with more than 90 dogs and 100 cats and kittens currently in our care and new animals arriving every day, our work isn’t over.
Basically, for every animal that gets adopted, several more arrive, leaving Winnebago County Animal Services at full capacity.
In an effort to clear the cages quickly, WCAS has decided to extend its discounted adoption fee event through Saturday, July 25, and they reduced cat and kitten adoption fees even further!
Whether you're looking for a playful puppy, a laid-back senior dog, a cuddly kitten, or a calm adult cat, there are so many incredible animals waiting at the shelter for someone to give them a chance.
Please fill out an adoption application today at winnebagoanimals.org.
