Our good friend Laura Gibbs-Green joined the show today for her weekly segment to let us know what to do over the weekend in the Rockford Park District.

Full disclosure, I've never frolfed before in my life but it looks awesome. I also would like to apologize to any serious disc golfers if the word "Frolf" is offensive to your craft. The portmanteau of "Frisbee and golf" is just too much fun to say but I feel like it is probably frowned upon by the serious golf world. People like this guy.

I've recently been subscribed to disc golf TicTok for no reason at all other than the algorithm thinks I'd love it and it hasn't been wrong before so I think I have to try it sometime and the Park District has me covered. They have one of the top courses in the country and just added another one.

They currently have 3 locations for disc golf and it looks like players of all levels would enjoy each of them.

Here's where they are.

Anna Page Park

This is the big dog of Rockford Disc Golf courses. According to their website, it's one of the finest disc golf facilities in the country. It consists of three courses.

  • The East Course (Built in 1986!) a beautiful scenic course with concrete tee pads. All holes have both red (easy) and blue (advanced) positions so there's something for everyone here.
  • The West Course (Built in 2004) presents its own challenges with some tight wooded fairways and elevation changes plus some long open holes for the big arms.
  • The South Course (Built in 2013) The crown jewel of Rockford courses. Long in places but tight and technical with tunnels through the woods making this one of the premier courses in northern Illinois and a destination for visitors from around the country.

Ingersoll Park

Built in 2018. This course works its way through mature oak savannah and is compact and level, perfect for beginners.

Shorewood Park

This is the new park Laura was talking about. It was built just this year and is located next to the Rock RIver. A great place to take the kids or hone your skills.
