Ice cream season is officially here, and one local favorite is getting ready to open, with a pretty big change this year.

I've spent all winter going to Mama's Feel Good Food that occupied the Dairy Depot location in Loves Park for soup season.  Now that summer is on the way, Dairy Depot is returning with a new policy they dropped for customers.

Loves Park Ice Cream Shop Announces New "Cashless" Policy

Dairy Depot will kick off the season on May 22nd.  Before you make your ice cream run, there's one important thing to know: they're going totally cashless this year!  That means card payments only, no cash accepted.

They're asking the community to spread the word so nobody is disappointed when they are ready to order.

Here's what Dairy Depot said on Facebook about the change:

"After a lot of consideration, we have transitioned to a cashless system and this decision was made to help protect our staff, reduce risk, and keep service running as smoothly and quickly as possible—especially during our busiest times.
We understand this is a change, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and continued support as we make this transition. Our goal is always to provide a safe, efficient, and enjoyable experience every time you visit.
Thank you for continuing to support our small, local business—it means more than you know."
Along with the payment change, they're bringing back their classic hours, open 1pm-9pm.  They're not the only one announcing their re-opening dates!  M & M Dari Ripple reopened on Good Friday, Dari Ripple in Belvidere opened earlier this month, and The Scoop in Winnebago opens on April 24th.
