Memorial Day Weekend Gas Prices in Illinois are the Highest Since 2014

If you and the fam plan to do a bit of traveling Memorial Day weekend, prepare to pay a bit more than usual at the pump.

According to AAA, Memorial Day travelers will pay the highest gas prices since 2014.

While the national gas price average has declined for the first time since the Colonial Pipeline Shutdown, it's going back up.

GAS PUMP STICKER SHOCK

When you compare where we were in Rockford just one year ago, when gas prices were sitting at an average of $2.13 a gallon, the current price, $3.13, is quite a shocker.

The gas is cheaper in Stevenson County ($3.10) and Boone County ($3.04). So if you want to save a few pennies, you can always gas up out of town instead of the Rockford area.

THE LAST TIME GAS WAS THIS EXPENSIVE

Looking at CreditDonkey.com, The last time gas was over $3 a gallon was in 2014. The average dropped nearly a dollar in 2015.

The AAA National Average is currently $3.06 but is higher in Illinois sitting at $3.22.

WHY ARE GAS PRICES GOING UP IN ILLINOIS?

Seems a bit convenient to me. If you think about what our Memorial Day plans were last year, most of us didn't need to fill up. Now that more and more of us are making plans to visit family, friends, or just getting out of town, gas prices are mysteriously rising.

Most of us thought gas prices would drop after the Colonial Pipeline situation eased up. While it did dip, the rise in gas price seems like it's all about supply and demand.

So I guess that means if you want gas prices to be affordable, don't use gas. Makes sense.
