Anaya has inherited her mom Hannah's fair complexion, while dark-skinned Myla follows after her dad Kyle, who is mixed-race. Kyle and Hannah discovered they were expecting three months after meeting at their local pub. Their friends even joked during the pregnancy, "what if one comes out dark and the other fair." As a man of mixed-race, my parents wondered what my skin would look like. In the case of Anaya and Myla, non-identical twins inherit different genes as they come from separate eggs, but as Kyle carries genes for black and white skin, Anaya inherited one code while Myla inherited another.

As the girls, who were born in April, have gotten older it's even easier to see just how different their skin color is. Hannah told News.com.au:

“At first, both the girls had a purple tone to their skin, but they looked darker so I assumed they’d both taken after Kyle.
