Grab your family and head to your local park to celebrate National Night Out.

Where I grew up, National Night Out was practically an actual holiday. My friends and I would rush home from school; wait for the sun to go down so we could turn the porch lights on and we'd all gather in the street to play under the open fire hydrant. The grown ups would gather around their grills and stand in garages and chat over an ice cold beer. The little kids would get to sit inside the big red fire truck and make the siren go off in the police car; it was always a fun night.

The National Night Out tradition continues tomorrow night and I hope you and your family plan on participating. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your neighbors and interact with local law enforcement.

Several activities are being planned in the Stateline area; many of which begin at 5 p.m.  Here's a list of places that will be holding events for this year's National Night Out:

In Loves Park, the location is Loves Park City Hall, 100 Heart Boulevard.
