Newest Louis Vuitton Designer Was Born in Rockford
Who knew Rockford had ties with the fashion world in Paris?
I definitely would not have guessed there will be some Rockford on stage at this year's Fashion Week in Paris this June, but there will be, in a big way.
Virgil Abloh was born in Rockford in 1980 and this weekend he was named the first African-American artistic director of Louis Vuitton.
He will take the title, 'Men's Artistic Director,' and according to Business Wire, his first show will be Men's Fashion Week in Paris.
There was obviously some other awesome stuff that led him from Rockford to Paris.
One of those steps was interning with Kanye West in 2006. From there he founded the clothing line, Off-White, and then actually became Kanye's creative partner in 2013.
The New York Times had the chance to talk to Virgil and he shared his view on style, 'My muse has always been what people actually wear, and I am really excited to make a luxury version of that.'
We're sending a huge congratulations overseas today from Rockford, Virgil, we can't wait to see what you have in store for LV.
