So far this winter Mother Nature has not been too cooperative with creating conditions that would allow outdoor ice skating to happen on the Eclipse Lagoon at Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens.

If there is a silver lining to the last two snowy/icy weekends that Rockford has had to endure, it is this: the Eclipse Lagoon is now open for our skating pleasure!

If you've never been skating on Nicholas Conservatory's Eclipse Lagoon before, here's a few things you should know before you go:

  • Ice conditions can quickly change, so you should always make sure the Lagoon is open before you go by checking out the Rockford Park District's Rainout Line, here.
  • You must have your own ice skates, there are no skate rentals on site.
  • Hockey is available at the north end of the lagoon only. Goals are provided and available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Lagoon skating is completely free and done at your own risk, there are no Park District employees present to supervise.
