Turns out that all this cold and wet weather has not only turned us into some Eeyores, the sloppy chill has also messed with potato growth nationwide.

Here's what that means for us french fry fans:

Long potatoes are needed for french fry making. No long ones, no fries. Potato producers are having to reach out to foreign producers to deal with the loss. That supply will run scarce until they are gone according to abc7chicago.com.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture predicts that potato production will drop a little over six percent this year, the lowest drop since 2010.
