I'd be willing to bet that almost half of the calls you get on a daily basis are robocalls. What exactly is a robocall?

An automated telephone call which delivers a recorded message, typically on behalf of a political party or telemarketing company.

Sound familiar? It should, because it turns out in Northern Illinois, we're getting A LOT of robocalls. So just how many have we gotten just in the last month? WTVO details -

It’s an epidemic now,” said Director of Rockford Regional Office BBB, Dennis Horton. “It’s at a point where people are simply fed up.” Horton said over the last month more than 14 million robocalls were received in Northern Illinois alone.

14 MILLION! Just last month! That's absurd. The good news is, just weeks ago President Trump signed the Traced Act into law. The law's goal is to put an end to robocalls.

So until that law takes effect, the only thing you can really do is trying your best not to fall victim. According to WTVO -

Horton says you can’t prevent these calls, but you can keep yourself from becoming a victim. “Look at your phone. If you don’t recognize the number, don’t answer,” he said. If you do fall victim to a phone scam Horton said it’s important to report it to the Federal Trade Commission.

So here's to hoping 2020 is the year robocalls are no more.
