People Are Stealing Manhole Covers from Rockford Streets

There are some big holes in Rockford streets and they are not potholes. It turns out people are stealing manhole covers and street grates throughout Rockford.

There is monetary value for manhole covers and street grating as scrap metal, which would explain why people are stealing them from Rockford streets? It seems like a lot of work and it is definitely illegal, which is why Rockford Police are hoping for witnesses or security camera footage of them being stolen.

WIFR.com reports manhole covers and street grating have been stolen from the following intersections:

- Greenmount Street at Davis Street
- Greenmount Street at Overlook Road
- 500 block of Sunrise Lane
- 2300 block of El Rancho Lane
- 2700 block of Starkweather Road
- 600 block of Willoughby Avenue
- 4700 block of Hiawatha Avenue
