Hoping to change the way we think and feel about pit bulls, a photographer has given them a new look to show us a different side of the breed.

The highlight of my week, every week, is spending time at Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary. I'll stop by every Friday for our weekly "Pet of the Week" feature and this past Friday I pointed out to the director, Dena, that for the past few weeks all the dogs we've featured were pit bulls. Dena said that pit bulls were the most common breed in Winnebago County and they see a lot of them come through there. It broke my heart.

The good news, is that there are good people out there that know and understand that it's not the breed; it's the owner, and every pit bull that we've featured so far has been adopted. Puts a smile on your face, doesn't it?

This should too. Photographer Sophie Gamand does the most amazing thing - she's made it a mission to help pit bulls get adopted by dressing them with flower crowns. She started a series called "Flower Power, Pit Bulls of the Revolution” where she takes adoptable pit bulls and adorns them with beautiful flower crowns for local animal shelters. The main goal of the project is to change our perception of the breed.

You can see all of her work on her Instagram page; I followed her immediately.
