On Saturday night I had the chance to hear some of Rockford's Rock and Roll Institute students at the Main Street District's Two Block Party. Needless to say, I was overly impressed by some of the skill the campers showed off.

The Rock and Roll Institute tag line is "start a band on Monday...play a show on Friday." The instructional camp was held over two weeks time in mid-June and open to students between sixth and 12th grade.

The camp is directed by Greg Farnham and features voice direction from Kelly Steward and drum instruction from Mickey Rosenquist along with a host of other talented local musicians.

The groups formed during the camp at the Rock and Roll Institute opened the show at Main Street District on Saturday night.

The Lexican's performed "We Got The Beat" by The Go-Go's.

This guy enjoyed this cover of Weezer's "El Scorcho" so much he decided to dance in the middle of W. State.

Congrats to the Rock and Roll Institute and all of the students involved. They rocked the block on Saturday night!
