In my best commencement speech voice possible, "Rockford area graduates, congratulations! Along with this diploma, you now have a mountain of student loan debt."

That's if the recent report from Reboot Illinois is to be believed. Rockford landed near the top of the Illinois cities with most student loan debt,

As someone who needed every penny I could get in student loans while I was in college, I fully understand the pain from anyone who is in deep with student loans.

The worst part of the student loan is the paying off. Worse yet, the note usually takes 30 years to pay back. Yikes.

Locally, three cities in the area including Rockford ended up in the top 10.

  1. East St. Louis
  2. Harvey
  3. Mount Vernon & Blue Island (TIE)
  4. Dolton & Calumet City (TIE)
  5. Alton
  6. Danville
  7. Freeport
  8. Rockford
  9. Kankakee
  10. Springfield & Loves Park (TIE)
