Imagine you're sitting at work and you're child sends you this:

It says, "I'm shooting up the school, 5/17/17, you were warned."

Could it be a joke? Yes. But it could also be a legitimate threat, which is why Hononegah parents acted quickly and shared the Snap on social media.

I actually know what it feels like to get something like this. Something similar happened when my son was a senior at Badger High School. A student had threatened to "shoot up" the school on the very last day and it really had parents in a frenzy. Real or not, I strongly encouraged my son not to go to school that day, and I'm sure parents of Hononegah High School students are doing the same after this Snapchat was sent to a parent.

According to WTVO, the Rockford Police are currently investigating the threat and as of right now, there is no evidence to show that the threat is credible.

Hononegah's superintendent, Lynn Gibson, said in a Facebook post,

Additional police presence will be in the school tomorrow and until the investigation is concluded.

“We always take any threats against our district very seriously.  The safety of our students is our utmost priority."

I also spoke to a parent who has two daughters who attend the school and she believes it's a hoax; a senior prank gone seriously wrong. Let's hope so.

We'll keep you updated as we get more information.
