Salmonella Outbreak In IL Linked to Handling Pig Ear Dog Treats
At least 93 people in 27 states, including Illinois, have come down with Salmonella recently, and the CDC and FDA think the connection may be the handling of contaminated pig ear dog treats.
CBS News reports that back in early June Pet Supplies Plus recalled bulk packages of pig ear treats for dogs that were sold at 400 stores across the country, and since then another 48 people Salmonella related illnesses have been reported.
According to CBS News;
An outbreak of salmonella infections linked tohas expanded to 27 states, with 93 people stricken, including 20 hospitalizations, according to federal health officials.
The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating contaminated pig ears, with evidence pointing to contact with the dog treats as the likely source of the outbreak.
The recalled Pet Supplies Plus pig ear treats were sold at stores throughout Illinois, so if you have purchased any lately, you should probably throw them out, just to be safe.
