Sammy Hagar Leaves Note On Chicago Man’s Car Windshield

Every Tuesday morning at 8:30 am, I have a segment on my radio show called "Backstage Pass, An Inside Look At The Concert Industry" featuring Don Kronberg, the owner of NiteLite Promotions.

Most music fans love going to live concerts. It is funny because besides buying tickets and going to the show, those are the only things that most of them know about. They do not know all that takes place to put on an event like that.

I thought it would be fun to let the fans see behind the curtain and get a lesson on what it takes to put on concerts. For the past few weeks, Kronberg has been sharing his experiences and stories.

A couple of weeks ago, we were talking about Sammy Hagar. I have been lucky enough to meet the Red Rocker a couple of times. He has also been a guest on my show in the past. He is one of the good ones out there. Sammy is super nice and a really cool guy.

After our segment, Don and I were comparing our Sammy experiences. He told me this story and I had to share it with you. Apparently, his brother-in-law, Keith, is a huge Van Halen fan. He has seen them many times in concert. He has also paid to be in the special backstage opportunities like meeting the band and watching soundcheck.

Keith lived in a highrise in downtown Chicago. The building did not have a parking garage, so he had to leave his vehicle on the street. If you have ever visited the city, you know how tricky that can be. Especially, if you have to do it every day.

He is such a huge Van Halen he had vanity plates on his vehicle in their honor. One morning, he came out to his car to leave for work. As he approached it, he noticed a piece of paper on the windshield. Keith thought for sure that he got a parking ticket. They are not cheap in Chicago.

When he went to grab it, he saw it was a handwritten note. As he read it, he recognized the familiar signature. It was from Sammy Hagar. The Red Rocker was in town to play a show with Van Halen. He drove past the car and caught the Van Halen license plates and made his driver pull over. He wrote out the little note for the "superfan" and put it under the windshield wiper.

What a surprise for a big fan like Keith. Here he is thinking he got a parking ticket but instead it was a note from the singer of his favorite band. The best piece of memorabilia ever. Years later, he got the chance to meet Sammy and of course, he brought the note. Hagar remembered that moment and shared the story. Check out the picture of the two.
