Small Relief in Grocery and Gas Taxes in Illinois Begin Friday
If you believe that the phrase "every little bit helps", then you can rejoice that there will be a bit of a relief from grocery and gas taxes in Illinois beginning Friday, July 1.
NBC Chicago was one of the many outlets to report on the attempt by the state of Illinois to bring a little relief when it comes to gas and grocery costs. According to their report, that break from taxes includes "food for human consumption that is to be consumed off the premises where it is sold". Translation: groceries.
Newschannel 20 reports that the "break" in the gas tax is really only relief from the scheduled increase which normally happens in July. That's now been punted to next January 2023.
The State of Illinois website adds some tax relief for homeowners with some being eligible for rebates up to $300 if you qualify. You can check out the State of Illinois rebate website to see if you're eligible. According to them, the rebates will begin going out on September 12.
