Now that the weather is nicer and if my boyfriend and I have a rare afternoon free together, we like to get on the motorcycle and just ride. Typically, we just like to see where the road takes us and last week it took us to Starved Rock State Park; we'd heard a lot about it from friends and we were really interested in checking it out.

If you've ever ridden on the back of a crotch rocket motorcycle, you know how uncomfortable it can be to sit on the back of one of those things for a long period of time; but once we got to the park, the sore behind was totally worth it.

We spent the late afternoon having dinner, hiking and exploring the canyons. I'd never actually seen anything like it in person before; I've never been one to explore the outdoors but Starved Rock State Park is so beautiful and all I could think about was how I couldn't wait to come back when I had time to see more.

I just wasn't expecting to see anything like this. NBC Chicago reports that someone vandalized the Council Overhang over the holiday weekend and park officials say that this isn't something that they can simply wipe away.

I can't wrap my head around why anyone would want to do this at any state park. It's such a beautiful place that deserves to be enjoyed and respected; not destroyed.

The park superintendent, Kerry Novak, says that the materials used to deface the rock have likely been absorbed into the sandstone, making it difficult to remove and it will likely be a big expense to fix as the location of the vandalism is in a remote area.

Seriously, how could you want to deface this?

It's unfortunate, but the park is extremely glad that no one was hurt.
