In a national park just 2 hours from Rockford you can take a guided tour to see bison roaming free in their natural habitat.

You and your kiddos can take a look at how life once was in Illinois before it was settled and bison roamed the land at the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie in Willmington, IL.

WREX shares that the U.S. national park is opening for the season on Saturday and visitors will "be able to go on guided hikes to look for bison" with volunteers on the "Ranger Trailer at the Iron Bridge Trailhead."

On Saturdays and Sundays, weather depending, volunteer rangers will lead hiking tours to look for the bison.

that's actually kind of a cool thing to take your kids to see. I'd like to see it. Heck! Anyone who loves nature will want to do this. At least I think they would.

You can find out more on their Facebook page: U.S. Forest Service - Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie or "on Twitter at @MidewinNatTP."
