Yikes. It might be a good idea to move to the Midwest if you're looking for the best quality of life in the U.S., but you might want to wait until after you've had your babies.

Wallethub released the 2014 list of the best and worst states to have a baby in the U.S. and the Midwest doesn't look so good.

Illinois ranks 40th (out of 51, this included Washington D.C. as its own rank), which is pretty terrible.

Although Wisconsin ranked higher than Illinois, 28th still isn't very good.

Wallethub put together this map to explain where the best and worst states are. The greener the better, which makes Vermont the place to move to if you're ready to start a family. You can scroll over the state to see its rank.

The list was developed based on budget, healthcare consideration, and the state being baby-friendly.
