How far would you drive to eat the best mac and cheese in Illinois?

For some, the answer is "not very far." For others, it's "not far enough."

While sure, you can make a nice box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and call it a night, it wouldn't be quite as good as grabbing a hot plate of mac and cheese from the place that apparently does it better than anyone else.

Bavette's Bar & Boeuf in Chicago, Illinois, is an upscale steakhouse that serves traditional meat and seafood. Yelpers love the mac and cheese with truffle.

Located at 218 West Kinzie Street in Chicago, a mere 86 miles from the heart of Rockford, Bavette's is home to what Insider and others say is the best mac and cheese in the entire state.

This is news I could have used a few months ago. I was at Bavette's for dinner recently and because it's a steakhouse, I ordered, you know, steak.

I actually passed on the mac and cheese that Bavette's calls Truffle Mac & Cheese, for Pommes Frites, because the fries there are drizzled in garlic aioli.

While the fries, the steak, and even the oysters were delish, I can't believe I missed out on an opportunity to try the Truffle Mac and Cheese at Bavette's.

I've never been so disappointed to realize that an already incredible meal could have been that much more incredible-er, if I would've just ordered mac and cheese.

Bavette's is open for dinner every day from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday and Saturday 4:15 p.m. to midnight and Sunday 4:15 p.m. to 10 p.m.
