Did you know that one of the creepiest roads in Illinois is closer than we think? Mysterious Heartland put together the 10 creepiest roads in the state.

The "Top 10 Creepiest Roads in Illinois" list features roads in Oswego, Hoffman Estates and Lake Zurich.

Also on the list is the Seventh Avenue dead end in Sterling, IL.

Mysterious Heartland says about the road in Sterling:

Several people have drowned or have been hit by a train in the area. Although 7th Avenue is nearly identical to the other nearby side streets, eyewitnesses have reported seeing or hearing the ghost of a woman there. She is said to be searching for her missing child along the riverbank just over the railroad tracks. While no one really knows who this young woman was in life, many locals have heard the story."

Sounds fun. This would make me think twice about buying property on this street.

Kennedy Hill Road in Byron also makes Mysterious Heartland's list of creepiest roads in Illinois. According to Mysterious Heartland:

Between mid-December and early January 1980/81, dozens of people reported seeing a young woman in various stages of dress walking down Kennedy Hill Road outside of Byron. By January 20, 1981, the sightings had reached a fevered pitch. Motorists parked their cars in the frigid temperatures along the narrow rural road to catch a glimpse of what became known as “The Phantom Lady of Kennedy Hill Road.”

Like all good stories, I have heard various versions my own-self. I have also heard the "Phantom Lady of Kennedy Hill Road" referred to as the "Bride of Kennedy Hill."

I have been on Kennedy Hill a bunch and have never seen anything, but knowing the story (or at least some variation of it), makes for an eerie cruise late at night.
