There's more than just athletic kids on the Auburn High School swim, they're pretty smart too.

There are six kids up for the National Merit Scholarship from the Rockford area this year, and five of them come from one school, Auburn High School.

First a huge congratulations to all six of those students who are up for the award, that is an amazing accomplishment.

But three of those students have something really interesting in common, they are all on the Auburn Knights swim team.

Rockford Register Star caught up with Monay Zayed, Cassie Shriver and William Jiang, who are all semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship and also on the Auburn swim team.

Not only are all three of these students part of Auburn's Gifted Academy Program they are all killing it when it comes to schoolwork, with each of them sitting with over a 4.0 GPA.

The National Merit recipients will be named later this school year.

Congratulations on this awesome honor and good luck in the pool and in the classroom.
