As far as schedule release news goes, this is pretty big.

I have no idea how long Cub night games at Wrigley have started at 7:05 but it seems like that's been the case since 1988 when they put the lights in.

Next season that changes, at least during the summer. The club hasn't officially stated why but I'm sure they can spin this as making their games more accessible to kids during the summer.

As someone who wakes up at 3:20 every morning I don't care why they're doing it, I'm pretty excited.

Some other notes from next year's schedule:

  • Cubs open the season against the Brewers in Milwaukee on March 26.
  • Cubs home opener (weather permitting, it won't) will be against the Pirates on March 30.
  • The Cubs travel to London to play the Cardinals on June 13 and 14. It will be counted as a home game for St. Louis.
  • Final series of the season will be September 25-27 against the Cardinals.
