Three universities in Illinois have been recognized among the best in the world; not the country, but the world.

This is extremely exciting news, especially since I have a kid going off to college next year. In the last two months my son has been on two college visits, one to the University of Minnesota and he just returned from a visit to Arizona State. If it were up to me, he'd go to the U of M because it's closer to home and more affordable but I wouldn't mind if he went to Arizona State, either. That's where I was supposed to go but I found out I was pregnant with him two weeks after I got my acceptance letter. He wants to have the "ultimate college experience" and I want that so much for him since I wasn't able to when I was his age.

That doesn't necessarily mean he has to travel to the other side of the country. Your son or daughter doesn't have to either. If the "ultimate college experience" is what they're looking for, they can get it right here at home; in Illinois.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities released their annual report last week and based on five categories: natural sciences and mathematics, engineering/technology and computer sciences, life and agricultural sciences, clinical medicine and pharmacy and social sciences, three universities from Illinois made the cut for best universities in the world. They are:

1. The University of Chicago

2. Northwestern University

3. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Illinois offers reciprocity for Wisconsin students, right?

The top 10 universities in the world are, in order: Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Berkeley, Cambridge, Princeton, Caltech, Columbia, University of Chicago and Oxford.
