Whenever I take a moment to think about the things Rockford, Illinois is most well-known for this is the list I come up with;

  • Cheap Trick
  • Sock monkeys
  • The weird Symbol
  • The Home of Mrs. Fisher's Potato Chips

Yes, I know Rockford has more claims to fame (or infamy) than those 4 things, but they are always what comes to my mind first. I guess I should have added BeefARoo to that list too because when I was in college I learned the hard way just how much one misses the cheddar fries and shakes when they move away from Rockford.

Back to the subject a hand now. Over the weekend I noticed this vague post from Mrs. Fisher's Potato Chips, and thought, "what are they up to now?"

Due to my years spent as an Illinois State University student, I know '309' is the area code for the Bloomington/Normal and surrounding areas, so I had a hunch that an expansion announcement was coming soon from Mrs. Fisher's Potato Chips. I'm totally down for spreading the Mrs. Fisher's love unless it means they are moving their production out of Rockford, and then I will definitely NOT be down with it.

Well, I am happy to say we now officially know that Mrs. Fisher's Potato Chips will still be made in good ole Rockford and that they are expanding to other parts of Illinois.

Yahoo News reports;

Schnucks supermarkets in Peoria and Pekin are to be the first local locations to stock the chips, according to Chris Spiess, the vice president for Mrs. Fisher's Inc.

Availability is to expand to other retailers in Marshall, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford counties. That's the service area for Brewers Distributing, the Peoria-based beverage wholesaler in charge of dispensing Mrs. Fisher's products locally.

Will the Mrs. Fisher's Potato Chip obsession soon take over the nation? Only time will tell, I guess. Until then, snack on!
