I remember the first time I told people I got a job in Rockford; the first thing my friends and family asked was, "you aren't going to move there are you?" Well, no, not at first. I was only working one day a week and commuting from Lake Geneva wasn't that big of a deal at the time.

Fast forward to January 2015. I started working with Steve Shannon full time and driving an hour at 3:30 in the morning just got to be too expensive with gas and tolls, so in October, I made the move to Rockford. Well, technically Machensey Park and if you ask me, it's not that bad. Having an extra $60 a week to spend always helps.

For anyone who's lived in this area, you already know the problems plaguing this city, but every city has their issues and if you ask anyone who's grown up here, they'll probably tell you that it's a safe place to live as long as you live in the right neighborhood(s).

There are two neighborhoods in Rockford that are not considered to be safe; in fact, they are among the top 25 most dangerous in the country.  The website, ArrestRecords.com placed the area of N. Rockton Ave. and W. State Street as the 18th most dangerous neighborhood, while the area of 7th street and Jefferson came in at #5; both higher than any neighborhood in Chicago.

Residents admit they feel a little nervous in the area, but say you just have to keep an eye on things and pay attention to your surroundings.

Good advice; or just don't move there.
