End of an Era: Rockford Coffee Shop Bids Farewell to Its Home
While this Rockford coffee shop has announced its closing, it doesn't sound like it's shutting down for good.
The news came out yesterday as Velvet Robot Coffee Lab announced they're closing their shop at 1292 South Alpine Road on September 19.

Building Issues Force Unexpected Closure After Five Years
Owner Justin Carner says the closure is because of circumstances involving the building, which means Velvet Robot has to leave the place it's called home for the last five years.
Carner added they don't have another location lined up and don't have a plan for what's going to happen next, but did mention, "We aren't ready for Velvet Robot to be over."

Celebrating the Final Month: Fan Favorites and Creative Brews
That said, Velvet Robot does plan to make their final month a big one by bringing back customer faves and creating some unusual drinks the shop has become known for over the years.
As for what's next, without a definitive plan in place, it seems like anything can happen, as Carner said it could be smaller, somewhere else, or even some kind of pop-up concept, while saying, "The building is the chapter. Velvet Robot is the story."
Who knows, maybe something cottage-related could be in the future for Carner and Velvet Robot? That industry has taken off locally in the Rockford area, and who wouldn't welcome another great coffee stand in Rockford?
