Why Rockford Is the Underrated Summer Getaway in Illinois
When people think of summer getaways, they definitely don't think about Illinois. I don't, but that's because I live here.
Rockford deserves a little bit more credit, though! There's actually so much to do around here, plus it's pretty affordable.

Start your visit at Anderson Japanese Gardens—one of the most peaceful, beautiful places in Illinois. You didn't hear it from me! It was literally named one of the most beautiful places in the state. Read about it here!
After your scenic stroll through the Gardens, make your way downtown to have lunch at one of our local eateries. The Norwegian, Woodfire, Sister's Thai Cafe, Prairie Street, Disco Chicken... the list is endless!
You'll spot tons of murals throughout downtown, too.
If you have kids, you can't miss the Discovery Center Museum or walk along the Rock River down at Sinnissippi Park. There are plenty of sculptures to takes photos with.

For outdoor lovers, Rock Cut is ideal for hiking, kayaking, and fishing. A great place to spend a warm, summer day with friends. Picnics have gained popularity over the last few years, why not give it a try?! Soak up the sun with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in hand.
So, if you're looking for a place where you've never explored before this summer, maybe give Rockford a try. We just got a Hard Rock Casino if you're a gambler, as well. There's something entertaining for everyone when you visit Rockford!
