Winnebago County Animal Services will no longer accept stray cats from Rockford or surrounding communities.

WREX shares that WCAS will not be accepting stray cats that are "trapped by the public in Rockford, unincorporated Winnebago County, South Beloit, Durand, Pecatonica, Village of Winnebago and New Milford."

The reason being is that none of these areas have "have leash laws for cats."

Starting this Monday, April 30th, if anyone brings a cat to them they will not take it.

The only exception they will make in taking in these cats is if "have been involved in a bite to a human or [are] sick and injured".

I get why they aren't taking them.

I'm sure they are overwhelmed with cats during the spring and summer months.

Now what will happen to these stray and seemingly healthy cats or kittens that the public will find at their homes or businesses?

Where will they go now?
