You Could Own a Pair of Presidential Sneakers But It’ll Cost You
I'm all for memorabilia. Although the idea of buying commemorative items is not for me, what people put in their own space doesn't impact my life. Have at it. But, in this case, this item seems a little crazy. Basketball and/or President Obama fans may appreciate this though.
It's no secret the 44th President of the United States loves basketball. History proves he played the game in high school and continues to play it today for fun. There are even photos of Barack Obama wearing Nike basketball shoes throughout his presidency. It makes perfect sense why Sotheby’s Auction House would auction a pair of Nike's made especially for him. The price tag is a little steep though, in my opinion. I should probably mention there is only two pairs of these style of shoes in the entire world, one of which is owned by the former President.
These deadstock Nike Hyperdunks are considered one of only two pairs in existence, with the other made for President Obama in 2009. They were designed exclusively for the 44th President of the United States.
This pair of Nike sneakers were the pair used to confirmed Obama was happy with their appearance (I guess?). He did not actually wear them, yet the price tag is still pretty hefty.
Sotheby’s Auction House will be auctioning off these Nike Hyperdunks on Friday at 3:44 p.m. Illinois time, which is 4:44 p.m. in Washington D.C.
a nod to Obama being the 44th president of the United States.
So what do these kicks look like?
This Hyperdunk resembles the ‘United We Rise’ version with white leather uppers, blue Swooshes and visible Flywire technology. Custom details include the official Presidential Seal and embroidered ‘44’s to commemorate the 44th President of the United States of America. The insoles are printed with patriotic graphics including bald eagles with the date ‘1776,’ the year of America's founding.
The price? $25.000. You can find more pics and bid on them here.
