You Might Want to Quit Your Job To Be A Baby-Sitter
Because baby-sitters make bank.
I remember the first time I baby-sat. I was 12 and I was watching my three younger cousins while my mom, aunt and grandma went to Valli Produce.
That hour and a half was my first taste of the best job ever.
Being a baby-sitter for me meant watching TV and making milkshakes, and being paid to do those things, which at the time was about $5/hour.
So that was approximately 16 years ago, and it looks like the average baby-sitter salary has grown exponentially.
According to an article from MarketWatch.com, the cost of a baby-sitter has grown 28% in the last five years, which makes the average per hour price of a baby-sitter $13.44.
$13.44/hour is way more than I made serving tables for 5 years, and I had to walk around for hours on end bringing smelly men beer bottles.
Every family is different, but in my mind baby-sitters don't have to pay taxes, so that's $108 for an 8-hour baby-sitting stint, plus overnight money? Vacations... and an unlimited supply of Oreos? Baby-sitting might be calling your name.
The article points out that baby-sitting isn't just milkshakes and Disney movies anymore, but we can dream right?
