Sleep-deprived After the Hawks Game Last Night? Be Careful.

Being sleep deprived might make your day a little sillier or get you to order the larger coffee at Starbucks, but there are some consequences to not getting enough sleep.

When I first started working here, I would go to sleep by 9:15 every night, get my 7-8 hours of sleep and come to work slightly chipper and ready to take on the day.

Then I realized my life was boring.

So I started to stay up a little later... including some nights that I definitely should have been in bed, much like last night.

Here's the thing, a lot of important TV shows go past 9pm. Award shows, anniversary specials and sporting events like the STANLEY CUP FINALS. How in the world was I supposed to go to sleep before midnight last night? Impossible.

I'm pretty sleepy today and I have a feeling a bunch of you are, too. But as a reminder to make being sleep deprived a special occasion happening instead of a regular occurrence, here are ten consequences of not getting enough sleep according to PopSugar.

  • You'll eat more. Yup, already ate more for breakfast than I usually do.
  • You may not live as long. Yikes, that's not good!
  • You'll weigh more. This is probably true, but I think only if you consistently don't sleep enough.
  • It shrinks your brain. Weird. Whoa.
  • It raises your blood pressure. Also kinda scary.
  • It increases your risk of being sick. Totally true, get some extra vitamins today!
  • It can worsen your memory. My memory is kinda crazy amazing so this is fine with me.
  • You'll skip your workouts. Well, I didn't work out this morning...
  • It makes you cranky. Yeah it's probably a good thing I'll be alone at work today.
  • You're not on your game. This has yet to be proven for the day, wish me luck!
