We've all been there. Something or someone prevents you from getting enough sleep. A barking dog, maybe a howling wind, a new baby or a loud snorer.

For most of us, falling asleep super late, or not at all, doesn't mean we can take the next day off from work or life.

So, here are 6 things from WebMD that you can do if you didn't get enough sleep last night, or maybe just bookmark or print for the next time it happens to you.

  1. Caffeine! Yes please! I'm all for this one, but WebMD says you should make sure to drink that caffeine in moderation. Stick to tea and coffee.
  2. Don't Rely on Sugar. This sucks. Because when you're exhausted, you just really want a doughnut. But that's probably not a good idea, protein and fruit, people, protein and fruit.
  3. Take Breaks. This sounds fantastic, if you can actually schedule some sort of break in your day. To keep your attention from fading, see if you can take a walk outside or if you have the best job ever, take a nap.
  4. Simplify Your Day. Today is not the day to work on your hardest projects. Can you put the difficult tasks off until tomorrow? Or maybe share the work with a co-worker/spouse/friend? This would be a good day to get some help, or move those tasks to the next day.
  5. Avoid Driving. Obviously this is a hard one to finagle, but if you have a well-rested friend, see if you can get a ride!
  6. Sleep In, A Little, Tonight. You're gonna be tempted to go to bed early after being sleep deprived and sleep as last as possible the next morning, but that might not be a good idea. Again moderation on this one, add an hour maybe but not much more.
