With a little help from many trips to the Dane County Farmer's Market and the experts who put it together, here are some Do's and Don'ts that should be helpful for your next farmer's market trip.
DO bring cash. Small bills. Not everyone will have credit card capabilities.
DON'T buy cheese curds that don't squeak
DON'T miss an opportunity to sample anything, if the vendor offers
DO come early if you want the best selection
DO arrive near the end of you're looking for great deals. Clearly, vendors don't want to bring much product home
DON'T bring your dog
DO buy your dog plant of treats for having to miss the market
DON'T haggle on price. EVER
DO bring a reusable bag
DO bring your own containers. As Dane County Farmers’ Market Manager Sarah Elliott says, "bring reusable containers to protect your smushables, like strawberries, blueberries and cherry tomatoes."
