5 Ways to Make Putting Up Christmas Lights Easier
Time to start decking the hall, walls, trees roofs and bushes. Here are 5 tips to make the job easier. Tip number 5 is the easiest of them all.
5 Ways to Make Putting Up Christmas Lights Easier
- Pick a day that isn't cold and wet. Low winds helps too. There's no shame in putting them up right after Halloween, just don't turn them on until after Thanksgiving. Even if you don't want to string the lights up, you could use this time to lay out your extension cords and light hanging clips.
- The earlier you get the lights out of storage the better. Start testing them now so you have time to buy some replacements. It's amazing to me how a string of lights can take a 10-month nap in a storage bin and come out not working.
- Buy shorter strings of lights as opposed to the longer strings. It's easier to replace a shorter string should you need to during the season.
- When wrapping lights around columns or porch railings, here are a few things that will help keep your lights from slipping without having to staple the string(s) down. If you're wrapping a column barber pole style, combine the lights with a decorative holiday garland (natural or artificial). The bulk of the garland will help hold everything in place. If you need a little adhesion, space and hide small pieces of removable tacky clay behind the string garland. Removable tacky clay is available at reputable craft or hardware stores. If you're wrapping an open baluster style porch railing use the same barber pole technique with garland, loop the light strings over and under the railing. Secure it as needed with removable tacky clay.

The light comes in 2 pieces: The stake you push into the ground and the light fixture that screws onto the top.
You can set it to just green or green and red. The light also has a daytime sensor so it will automatically shut off when the sun comes up and turn itself on at night. The further you move the light from your house, the more space the light covers.
The lights look great on your landscaping as well.
