Not everyone will confess to it, but I think it's safe to assume that many of us maybe have gone a little nuts from time to time when we're shopping online.

For me, it was ordering a spongy, purple, cartoonish, and padded iPad case that was somehow made attractive to me by the two martinis I'd had before clicking on the Amazon app (It looked something like these):

The mean-spirited people I cohabitate with still enjoy heaping verbal abuse on me about it. Maybe the green, blue, and yellow ones are lame, but the purple one...yeah...pretty lame, too.

You're Not The Only Person In Illinois To Say "I Think I've Made A Mistake" After Online Shopping

According to polling information at StudyFinds.org, it sure looks like buyer's remorse is a lot more common than "buyer's delight." When 74% of the 2000 people polled said that they've felt the pangs of buyer's remorse after online shopping, you know you're not alone.

So, what is it that we're regretting? The poll says that these are the top things:

  • Less valuable than I expected
  • Not using it as much as I thought I would
  • I spent too much on it

Here's where the blame is placed as to why these items were purchased to begin with:

  • Good advertising
  • Cheap price and availability
  • Came in the color I wanted (not unlike the purple iPad cover)

60% of the 2000 people who took part in the poll say that they shop online while drunk or buzzed, and 83% of those folks admit that they usually buy something "dumb or frivolous."

Most people who've been bitten by the buyer's remorse bug say that they'll toss their unwanted purchase someplace out of sight so they won't be reminded of it, while next on the list was "re-gifting," followed by returning it for a refund or credit.
