When I was asked to volunteer to work my daughter's first Middle School dance, i jumped at the chance. I can't believe what I saw.

I was really hoping that I wouldn't get stuck working the snack stand. Not because I didn't want to help in any way I could. I didn't want to be kept from moving around during the dance and watching everything. I was glad to find out that I was to be one of the chaperones on the dance floor. What a place to be for the father of a daughter. In the dark gymnasium, within arms reach of every boy in the school.

I was excited for my daughter because she had been looking forward to this dance since the new school year began.

During the 2 hours of this party, several things ran through my mind...

1. Do you think these boys are aware that there's a 6 foot radius around my daughter and if they break that perimeter we will have a conversation.

2. I love that there is still separation of the genders in this gym.The girls are dancing and many of the boys are just running around acting ridiculous.

3. Several of my friend's daughters are here and in their father's absence I will be enforcing a 6 foot radius around them as well.

4. Why does this girl have to get any older? She could just be this beautiful little princess the rest of her life and I will take care of her every need.

5. I wish I could be the only man she ever dances with.

6. I really need a drink right now. This DJ is playing my jam. Try not to dance because nobody in this gym wants to see that.

7. No, as far as I know, there are no Pokemon characters to catch in this gym.

8. I can't believe how well these kids can dance. Where are they learning these moves?
