Apparently Illinois’ Most Haunted Location is a Zoo

When I was growing up in Chicago and didn't have enough money to go do something my mom would take me and the rest of us to the zoo.

You see, the Lincoln Park Zoo was and still is a free zoo.

More often than not, I'd go see an exhibit and it was ultimately closed. Nearly every time I went to see polar bears, monkies, you name it, they were either inside or it was closed off. Pain.

Truth is, you get what you pay for when it comes to the zoo too. It certainly doesn't hold up to the paid experiences at Brookfield or even in Milwaukee.

Then again, we couldn't always afford a trip to those zoos so we went to the free one.

HOW ABOUT A HAUNTED ZOO TRIP?

Little did I know, the place where I went just about every year growing up was actually the most haunted place in Illinois.

BestLife profiled the 50 Most Haunted Places in America, and the Lincoln Park Zoo was the only one in Illinois that made the list.

No asylums, no prisons, or some other burned-out or abandoned building made the list, but a zoo did.

Back in the 1840s and '50s, the area that is now the Lincoln Park Zoo was the final resting place for more than 35,000 souls—most of whom were moved to another cemetery after the original one proved to be too close to the city's water supply.

GHOSTS AT THE ZOO? C'MON!

Ursula Bielski, a parapsychologist, told TimeOut Lincoln Park is "without a doubt the most active site I've investigated."

Who knew? As I said, I've been to Lincoln Park Zoo plenty of times, and the only thing I've ever seen or felt was a massive sense of disappointment.
