Your typical hole-in-the-wall restaurant isn't the kind of place you'd consider a hotspot for fine dining.

Not there's anything wrong with that.

Personally, I prefer places that you walk in and can just tell they're not in business to provide you the atmosphere, the pomp, and circumstance, or whatever is needed to hide from you their food is no good.

When a place is, to a lesser extent kind of a dump, the more interested in trying the food I actually am. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I decided to check out two of the very best websites for food in America, TripAdvisor, and Yelp. Both sites are driven by user reviews and I simply searched for "best hole-in-the-wall pizza in Illinois" and this is what I got.

First, Yelp. According to their site, the very best hole-in-the-wall pizza joint in Illinois is a place called The Art of Pizza. I'll admit, I never heard of this place but the reviews got me very interested.

Located at 3033 North Ashland in Chicago, Amber H. says "It's a hole in the wall place, not grand dining room or wine list, but I'd rather have a beer at home sitting on my living room floor with a good movie and kick-ass pepperoni pizza on the coffee table."

Then there's Amato's Pizza. This is the top choice for best hole-in-the-wall pizza joint in Illinois by TripAdvisor.

You can find Amato's at 1745 North Harlem Road in Chicago. Flyairdave says "While it is nothing special from the look, the slice of pizza was quite good."

Have you been to The Art of Pizza or Amato's? Which of the two is Illinois' top hole-in-the-wall pizza joint?
