Love is officially in the air across Illinois, and apparently, throughout the animal kingdom, as Brookfield Zoo Chicago rolls out its Valentine’s Day offerings for 2026. Whether you’re shopping for a romantic partner, a best friend, or someone who falls into the “it’s complicated” category, the Zoo is once again leaning into creative, conversation-starting ways to celebrate the season of love while supporting wildlife conservation.

Naming a Cockroach for Valentine’s Day

Here’s the twist: Brookfield Zoo Chicago’s Name a Cockroach fundraiser has returned. For a $15 donation through Feb. 14, supporters can symbolically name a Madagascar hissing cockroach after someone special (or not-so) special. Donors receive a digital certificate, and select names will appear on the Cockroach Naming Board at the Zoo.

It might just be the most honest Valentine’s gift available.
