Chicago Mom Turns $5 Scratch-Off Into $400,000 Win
Imagine running into a convenience store for something and walking out knowing you just won $400,000. That's exactly what happened to one Chicago mom after she decided to spend $5 on an Illinois Lottery scratch-off.
According to the lottery, the mother purchased a $5 "In The Money" scratch-off ticket at California Enterprises in Chicago's Gage Park neighborhood last month. And apparently, the $5 was VERY well spent.

She quickly realized she might have hit big, but she wasn't exactly convinced at first. In fact, she thought she might be losing her mind.
“I thought I was losing my mind. I lost track of how many times I checked the results,” she said.
And honestly, I would do the exact same thing. Because there is no way I'm looking at that winning screen and immediately trusting it. I'd totally think it was a glitch!

She scanned the ticket multiple times at the store's kiosk, hoping each scan would confirm what she was seeing. Then, just to really make sure, she opened up the Illinois Lottery app and scanned it there, too.
Sure enough, she was a huge winner.
The Chicago mom, who has three kids, has already figured out what she wants to do with her winnings. Rather than blowing the money on something ridiculous, she plans to invest in her kids' education.

But she's also going to have a little fun with the win. Before the kids head back to school, she plans to surprise them with a back-to-school shopping spree! How cute and thoughtful.
Basically, Mom went in with five bucks and came out almost a half million dollars richer. What a life upgrade!
