I'm not saying it's bad, or that you shouldn't donate your no-longer-needed car seat. I'm just saying I have an idea worth considering before you decide.

The annual Target car seat trade-in event is coming up. The event is April 5 - April 17, 2021. In exchange for your car seat donation, Target will give a 20% off coupon that you can use toward the purchase of a new car seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller or select baby home gear. Select baby home gear includes play yards, high chairs, swings, rockers and bouncers.

20% off anything is a nice savings, and Target has great plans for the seats that you donate, but I think there's something else you could do that will make you feel even better.

What about you checking with your circle of friends and acquaintances to find a family who could use that car seat. Maybe you could ask on your Facebook page, is there's anyone who could use your old car seat. I'm sure you'll find someone right here in town that could use it. Knowing you helped a family will feel much better than a ten dollar coupon.

You could even consider a place in the Rockford area that helps young moms and families. Like, The Pregnancy Care Center of Rockford. They're located at 4108 Morsay Drive. You could also call (815) 997-1200.

So you know, good things do happen to the car seats you donate, they just won't be going in the backseat of another family's car that could use the help. Target teams up with Waste Management and they recycle the car seats so the materials can be turned into pallets, plastic buckets and construction materials like carpet padding, according to the store's website.

EVERY Target store will have drop-off boxes for car seats located near Guest Services. You also must be enrolled in Target Circle to participate in the trade-in and get a coupon. Scan sheets will be placed on the drop-off boxes for you to scan from your mobile device into your Circle. And one more thing, you can redeem this offer twice, if you have two car seats to donate
