Adorable 3rd Grade Artist Wins Illinois State ‘Doodle For Google’ Contest
Wow, I wish I was this talented. Growing up, I never really found a hidden talent of mine and I always hoped I'd turn out to be a secretly amazing artist. Nope.
I always envied this girl I went to middle and high school with because she could literally close her eyes and draw anything you asked her to. From full-size portraits to detailed cartoon characters, she could do it ALL. It takes a special type of person to really grasp the concept of art and there are people all around us who have unlocked that ability.
Take this 3rd grader from Center Elementary School in Freeport, Illinois for example!
Her name is Amelia Winters.
Amelia's entire 3rd grade class individually entered a 'Doodle For Google' contest for the state of Illinois. Students could draw whatever their hearts desired with materials of their choosing and describe the meaning of their artwork. If they met the criteria of artistic metric, creativity, and theme communication they were good to go!
The theme of this year's contest? "Use your imagination to create a Google Doodle based on what self care means to you."
Out of all the students who entered in the state of Illinois, only ONE could be the winner. For Amelia Winter, the news broke that her drawing won 1st place!
Amelia could win a $30,000 college scholarship for herself, plus her school could receive a $50,000 technology package! Wow... she is now in the running to be the National winner!
Her artwork might just be featured on Google's website for the world to admire, congrats Amelia! Watch the video below to see Amelia learn she won the Illinois contest.
